# Jam Session A 2500 word flash fiction piece. ![[Jam Session cover.jpg]] No marriage is perfect, but we often con ourselves into thinking ours is. This is a story about two con artists, a marriage counseling session, and a traffic jam. This was my submission to the 2026 Verdant Owl Writing Battle. It's just about 2500 words long. They run several contests a year and this was my submission for Verdant Owl 2026. It finished in the top 16 stories of the "Con Job" genre and won several "pips" and one "pro-phy." For this story, I took some inspiration from my own 17-year long marriage. While the topics these two fight over aren't what my husband and I disagree on, the heart of what a marriage argument can look like is there. I wanted to make sure that each of them clearly had some work to do and some accountability to take-because that's how a real marriage works.
